In a follow-up to his Federal Workers’ Forum hosted this past Tuesday, February 4th, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball today unveiled a list of expanded resources and services the County and its partner agencies are offering federal employees impacted by proposed changes being introduced by President Donald Trump’s administration.

The Youth Engagement Programming (YEP!) initiative supports a diverse group of organizations that provide physical, mental and emotional support for young people in Howard County.

A Howard County construction project to repair two existing ponds just north of Centennial Lake in Ellicott City, will begin on or about Monday, February 17th. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by late fall 2026.

The County's Department of Public Works initiated stream inspections and debris clearing in the Historic Ellicott City watershed following severe windstorms on February 16-17, 2025.

Through an annual back-to-school initiative known as H.A.S.T.E. (Helping Arriving Students Through Enforcement), officers will focus on enforcing driver and pedestrian safety in school zones.

Howard County Government offices, courts, animal shelter, 50+ centers and the Alpha Ridge Landfill will be closed in observance of the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 2nd. As there will be no Monday curbside trash, recycling, yard trim or food scrap collection on Labor Day, the County’s holiday "slide” schedule will be in effect for the remainder of the week.

In response to high temperatures forecast by the National Weather Service, the Howard County Health Department has issued a heat alert for Howard County. The alert has been issued for Wednesday, August 28 from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with high temperatures expected to be in the mid-to-high 90s.
