To inspire holiday spirit this season, Howard County Executive Calvin Ball launched the 2024 “HoCo Holiday Lights” map today for residents and visitors to locate the most festive residential and commercial holiday light displays in the county.

Cherrytree Farms Stormwater Pond Repair to Begin
A Howard County construction project to repair and upgrade the existing stormwater management pond located at 8421 Sand Cherry Lane in Laurel, is expected to begin on or about Monday, December 16th. The project is not expected to impact the flow of traffic and weather permitting, is expected to be completed by mid to late April 2025.

Dorsey Run Sewer Interceptor Improvements to Begin
A Howard County construction project to install approximately 2,200 feet of new 36-inch sewer line from the Department of Public Works’ Dorsey Run Pumping Station, located at the end of Patuxent Range Road (east) in Jessup, north along the Dorsey Run River and CSX railroad tracks, has begun. Weather permitting, the project will be completed in December 2025.

Twenty-nine new beds will be added to the emergency shelter, growing capacity by more than 55 percent.
Howard County Government Closings for Christmas Day Holiday on December 25th
Howard County Government offices, courts, 50+ centers, animal shelter, Alpha Ridge Landfill, Cedar Lane and Schooley Mill Activity Rooms, Gary J. Arthur, North Laurel and Roger Carter Community Centers, Meadowbrook Athletic Complex, Robinson Nature Center, Harriet Tubman Cultural Center, Kiwanis-Wallas Hall, Baltimore & Ohio Ellicott City Station Museum, and county historic sites will be closed on Wednesday, December 25th in observance of the Christmas holiday. Also, as there will be no curbside trash, recycling, yard trim or food scrap collection on Christmas Day, the County’s holiday "slide” schedule will be in effect.
